Our impact
Here at IBC, our mains are to:
- help parents and caregivers source more diverse and inclusive books for children
- spotlight children’s authors and illustrators of inclusive books
- support independent booksellers and presses where this is compatible with our charitable status
In the background, we also offer financial support to initiatives working to increase inclusivity in children’s books in other ways. For example, projects that nurture the pipeline of creative talent from under-represented backgrounds or donate inclusive books to children who might not otherwise have access.
Here are some of the inclusive projects and organisations we have supported over the last year:
- Inclusive library refresh and bookgifting project with literacy charity Doorstep Library
- Pathways Into Children’s Publishing, a mentorship and training scheme for aspiring illustrators from under-represented backgrounds
- All Stories, a mentoring programme for under-represented children’s book writers
- Inclusive book donation to the Little Village baby bank, curated by inclusive bookseller A New Chapter Books
- Sponsorship of CLPE Reflecting Realities report 2023
- Inclusive books refresh project for 16 schools, in conjunction with charity Read For Good and inclusive bookseller Little Box of Books
