Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo’s life was not simple or easy, and this picture book appeals to young children without dodging that difficult fact. We see Frida at school with leg callipers, drawing from bed in a full-body cast, walking with a stick as she meets her husband, and painting self-portraits in her wheelchair. But we also see her without mobility aids - passing as non-disabled. It is rare to see disability representation as good and true-to-life as this, with art, disability and relationships all presented as part of a rich life.
